Pokemon Tower Defense: Small update for people who donated.

I'm sending out the emails to all those who donated to get their shiny starters, you will need a new version of the game which you can find here (I also changed the link on the other blog post)

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2SU40OT5

This version activates Mystery Gift, and lets you put in the code for you shiny pokemon.
If you donated $10 or more you will be getting something else that I'm still working on, if you donated $20 or more you will get even more additional stuff.

If you play in Newgrounds I uploaded a new version there but it might take a little bit until it actually shows up, I emailed tom over at Newgrounds to see if something was wrong.

If you didn't donate and don't plan on donating anytime soon you don't really need this update right now.

If you want to donate but don't know how or have questions just post a comment here or email me directly. To donate just click on the donate button to the top right of this page.

And just to remind you guys a new level will be coming out this weekend, and you can finally get your badges :D

Pokemon Tower Defense: This week's update: Level 7 Work in Progress List

This week's update is starting to shape up so I figured I would keep you guys updated on what's happening. Let's get to it.

Fixes/Tweaks: Pretty much all of these fixes are due to feedback that all of you have given me, either directly or indirectly. So keep it coming :) (Note: All these fixes are finished and will be available on this update coming up)

  1. Fixed badges showing up on profiles that didn't earn the badge yet.
  2. Level Select screen no longer requires scrolling (more of grid style).
  3. Shiny pokemon will get more experience per kill, roughly 50% more.
  4. If you have your sound fx and music muted, leveling up or evolving will no longer be heard.
  5. Lowered the amount of time the evolving popup window stays on before your pokemon evolves.
  6. Added an small animation to your pokemon when it's evolving.
  7. Pokemon that can't be captured now have a dark blue life bar.
  8. The game version number will be on the main screen so you know which version you are playing.
  9. Game saves more often now. (When you exit a level, and when you exit or enter the party select screen).
  10. Changed "Attack Speed" to "Attack Cooldown" in the attack description so that it makes more sense what that number really means.
  11. When your pokemon is ready to level up but you don't have enough money, he will have a red arrow but it won't blink anymore. Once you have enough money it will blink. This applies both to the party select screen and when you are playing a level.
  12. The graphic for Water gun is now 50% faster (Thanks zShenanigans)
  13. Pressing the back button (on phones) will in a level, will now show the exit confirmation dialog box.
  14.  The game will no longer let your phone go into sleep mode while it is on.
  15. Route 1 (Level 2) -Changed the spot close to the candy, moved it up so that it's easier to select your pokemon in that spot and added more room at the bottom of the level so that you can select the pokemon at the bottom row.
  16. Route 2 (Level 3) -
  17. Moved the spot close to the candy to make it more useful.
  18. Pewter Gym (Level 5) - You will not have a pokemon taken away from you on this level, the intro was changed slightly to make up for this.
  19. Viridian Forest (Level 4) - Slightly tweaked how the bug catcher meets joey.
  20. Route 3 (Level 6) Fixes -
  • Missing background in the intro.
  • Skip button showing up before you viewed the intro at least once.
  • All free roam pokemon will now give out money, but at a reduced rate. (1 per pokemon)
  • Added more room at the bottom of the level so that you can select pokemon at the bottom row.
New Features:

Save Profile Online: This allows you to make a backup of your save file, that you can secure using a name and password. (100% done)

Import Profile Online: Using the name and password that you used to save the profile, you can import it wherever you want to play the game at. (The game must be v.2.0 for this to work.) (100% done)

New Pokemon:

Shiny Mew with 4 new moves (100% done)
New Pokemon for Level 7 with 2 new moves(100% done)

Levels:

Viridian Forest Free Roam (Level 7):
  • Intro (100% done)
  • Level (100% done)
  • Ending (100% done)
Other stuff:

I know I said other features (pokemart, inventory) were coming but I might not have time to finish them. If I do end up having time I will post them here. As usual let me know what you think!

Also if you haven't already read the blog post before this one to check out the next game I'm working on Ninja-ja! Thanks.

PLEASE READ BELOW, REALLY IMPORTANT MAINTENANCE ISSUE!

Wednesday night at 11:00PM Eastern Time I will be shutting down the current free server that I'm using and transferring to the new one.

What does this mean? It means that you won't be able to import/save your profile or use certain mystery codes until v2.4. So make sure you save your profile correctly or make the proper adjustments. Once v2.4 is out everything will be back to normal. I'm transferring all the data over so anything you do before Wednesday night and save will be secure. You have been warned.

We have gotten a lot of great artist applications, and if you sent one in and haven't heard from us it doesn't mean you aren't getting picked, Dan and I still need to sit down and decide who has what we are looking for. For those that are interested in applying you can still apply.

Dan and I are looking to add more members to our development crew and right now what we need the most is a capable artist. Somebody that wants to work with us on our next games. This is a paid position. All communication will be done online. Here is what we are looking for:

    • A passion for games.
    • A passion for making art.
    • 18 years or older.
    • Must have a portfolio.
Also these next requirements are extra but if you have these it will make you more likely to be picked.
    • Be able to animate.
    • 3D modeling experience.
    • Vector art
    • Concept art
    • Game development experience (web games, console games, apps)
    • Flash experience.
We can't wait to check out everybody's art :) so just email me at sotero86@gmail.com with "Artist Position" as the subject and we can talk about further details.

What's next? Pokemon Tower Defense v2.5 update this weekend!

Want to play Ninja-ja? Get a shiny pikachu, shiny mew, shiny starter or have your suggestion for a weapon design to be used on Ninja-ja? Click here for more info on how you can get those things.

I just want to personally thank everybody that bought Ninja-ja, you are helping to support Dan and I to continue to grow and keep making games for you guys, we still have a long way to go but we are going to keep going at it until we make it.

Also I had a good break, I still put out an update and released Ninja-ja but I did manage to gather my thoughts and clear my mind a bit. Some of you might have noticed that Dan is now answering blog questions, so feel free to ask him anything :)

I do read everybody's comments and email, even though it is impossible to answer them all in a timely fashion, but I wanted to let you guys know that your comments and suggestions are being heard.

So I wanted to comment on a couple of things, this new level will have the appearance of a non Generation I pokemon (I won't spoil it so wait until the update to find out) but you won't be able to capture it. Also as of right now I don't plan on including any non generation 1 pokemon that will be able to be captured. Once the game is done and you can capture all 151 I will decide on what I will do. So please don't ask about including crobat (lol), and if you see somebody asking about it let them know :)

Another thing is Mystery Gift Codes, there are only 2 free codes available (pidgey and jigglypuff ) at this time and both of them will expire this weekend when v2.5 comes out. If you happen to hear from somebody of a code or just randomly type in a code and it says this code is used, that means that somebody at some point got that code and used it already. Only the free codes can be used over and over, but codes for pikachu or starters or mew can only be used once, and those are not given out for free. But if you really want to get a mew you don't have to worry because he will be in the game eventually in a future update. So while shiny mew is exclusive to those who pay, regular mew should be available to all.

We are committed to making games that you guys want to play and making them better based on what you guys want, but we still want to be creative ourselves and we want to surprise you guys with new and unique ideas.

Thanks for all the continued support.

This is the last week we are giving away a shiny Jigglypuff, thanks again to my friend at PlayTowerDefenceGames.com, the clues are a little harder this time so good luck. Click here to start your mystery gift code hunt.

Okay let's get down to the update.

First of all this update will be most likely be coming out this weekend (Fri-Sun), the list below is what I'm focusing on for this update. The list doesn't apply to earlier versions of the game, only for v2.5. The list is not complete and I will be adding more to it as I get things done.

UPDATE coming out withing a couple hours!

    Trading/Transferring  (100%)

    • You will be able to trade or transfer a pokemon from one profile to another. This includes from your first profile to your second or third. You can also trade or transfer a pokemon to a different account all together be it your other account or another person's account. You can even trade or transfer to the same profile. The way it works is that you go into the trading menu and select the pokemon you want to trade, the pokemon will be removed from your profile and in exchange you will get a code. You can then trade that code with somebody. Once you have a code that you want to use, you go to the trading menu and insert the code, that pokemon will now be added into your storage.  You will be able to trade shiny pokemon. Pokemon that are traded or transferred do not gain any benefit to how much experience they gain. Pokemon that evolve from trading will evolve when you trade or transfer them in any of these ways. Pokemon that will evolve when traded are Graveler, Kadabra, Machoke, Haunter. Note: Only Graveler is in the game as of v2.4.

     Finishing Touches (90%)
New Level (100%) Cerulean City Gym
      • In this level you will finally get to Cerulean City and challenge the second gym leader, Misty. You guys voted and both Joey and you will get a chance to fight Misty and try to win a badge.
        • Intro Scene (100%)
        • Level Graphic Assets (100%)
        • Level Layout (100%)
        • Level Waves (100%)
        • Level Ending (100%)
        New evolutions (100%)
      •  Golem Graphic (100%)
      • 2 new evolutions Graphic(100%)

       New Catch-able pokemon (100%)
      • Pokemon (1) Graphic  (100%)
      • Pokemon (1) Stats Added to Game(100%)

Like a said before more things like bug fixes, new pokemon, level cap increase will be added to the list as I get them finished.

Pokemon Tower Defense: v2.8 is out now! New challenge mode level, pokedex and achievements! Shiny hunt on hold. Perfect update week.

New update is out now, quick post and I will be leaving for the day.

Want to play Ninja-ja? Get a shiny pikachu, shiny mew, shiny starter or have your suggestion for a weapon design to be used on Ninja-ja? Click here for more info on how you can get those things.

              It includes:
              • New Challenge Mode Level (greatly inspired by forum member Zackirus, with music by Hank Winer)
              • Pokedex and Achievements
              • Bug Fixes
              Where can I play?
I think everybody out there has their own idea of what a perfect (but doable) weekly update would be. So why don't you let me know, but don't email me (I have plenty of emails!), post it on the forums http://s4.zetaboards.com/poketd so that everybody can see and comment on your individual suggestions (The comment space bellow is too hard to sort). If you guys come up with a good (doable) weekly update I will try to make it happen.
              Just a couple of rules:
              1. You can suggest a story level but don't suggest a storyline since I already have that set.
              2. You can suggest a challenge mode and design one if you want.
Let me know about level cap, new moves, tms, new achievements, and even tell me which shiny hunt pokemon I should give out.

Let's make it happen, let me know what you think of this update and let me know what your perfect, but doable, weekly update would be.

Weekly Update: What's coming next for PTD, Ninja-ja's update, and taking a break!

Want to play Ninja-ja? Get a shiny pikachu, shiny mew, shiny starter, shiny magikarp or have your suggestion for a weapon design to be used on Ninja-ja? Click here for more info on how you can get those things.

              Happy Monday!

Ninja-ja's update will be coming this week, we apologize for the lateness.

I will be taking a break from updating PTD this week, meaning there won't be an update this weekend. Constantly updating a game can put a lot of strain so every once in a while I will take a weekly break to recharge my batteries.

Update: I'm considering adding a new mode called "Classic". Basically in this mode your pokemon's attacks will have the same stats as the original game or as close as possible. You will be able to use the same pokemon for both "Classic" and regular mode but there will be different achievements for each mode. In regular mode the attacks will be more balanced and towers will have health. In classic mode towers won't have health and attacks will do the attack power that the original games have (based on Gen 5). Vote on the poll and let me know what you think.

But I want to talk about what's coming next for the game and just comment in more detail about a lot of the questions and concerns you guys are all having.

First about the move balancing. By looking at the poll I can see that a lot of you guys liked the balancing except for a few special moves that could use some more love or uniqueness.

So for the next update you can expect quick attack and extremespeed (to name a few) will have a lower cooldown.

I will also be looking at how difficult or how high of a level you need to reach to get a move in order to figure out the appropriate damage it should do. If you can just buy a TM then chances are the move won't get significantly stronger, but there are some specific exceptions.

Let's look at Earthquake! It hits everybody on the field while it has a target in range for 20 attack power. Most of you think this is too low, which I can understand seeing as how powerful the move is in the real game. I can make it stronger (40 attack power) but there needs to be a drawback to such strength. I tried longer cooldowns but I just don't like how it makes some moves useless. Some people in the chat actually mentioned something that I originally sorta brushed off as I won't be adding that to the game. But today thinking about it, I think it can work. So for the next update I will be introducing.... Tower Health!

That's right your towers will now have a health bar, just like the enemy! But slow down a bit... the enemy isn't going to stop and do attacks towards you. The point is that a move like double-edge can now actually have a recoil damage (and much higher attack power). A move like recover is useful while defending, and best of all, defense moves will be useful both in attacking and defending, a defense move will lower the amount of damage received from all sources.

Another big thing is the duration of defense and offense buffs. It is a pain to keep using rage every time it runs out on one pokemon, imagine keeping it up on all 6! Therefore I'm drastically increasing the duration of these buffs. They won't last forever but you won't have to re apply them nearly as often making it more manageable to use in battle.

Now let's talk about trading. Trading is going to change radically. The trading center is coming, and no more trade codes! You will be able to search for the pokemon you want or search for somebody that wants your pokemon, also transferring pokemon from one save to another will be easier than ever.

Next update will also include two new story mode levels one being the S.S. Anne level and the other being the Vermillion Gym level. You can expect to get the HM Cut, and you can expect to use it on different levels to find secrets.

Lastly I haven't forgotten about Daily Codes, Missing Relearner moves, so those will be coming also.

Below is my progress on these things, keep checking back to see how I'm doing!

              Tower Health (50%)
              Move Balancing (0%)
              Buff Durations (0%)
              Trading Center (0%)
              Story Levels (0%)
              Daily Codes (0%)
              New TMs (0%)
              Relearn Moves (0%)
              New Pokemon (0%)
New achievements (0%) (old ones won't get removed ever)

That's all I have for now, as always let me know what you think, read the FAQ and also read the comments on this blog post before you post as I won't be publishing comments that have already been asked.

Ninja-ja: Alpha v1.2 update is now available! Pokemon Tower Defense: v3.1.5 now available!

Hey guys! Sorry for the long delay on this Ninja-ja update. We've decided that it would be good if I (Dan) learned a bit more programming in order to free up Sam so that he can focus more on PTD stuff. So these first few Ninja-ja updates will most likely be a bit smaller and take longer than expected but we'll catch up over time and make it worth your while!

The Android version of Ninja-ja is on hold for now. We know a lot of you are requesting it but it introduces some issues that we're still dealing with. We'll definitely be releasing it in the near future though and possibly for the iPhone as well.

We've got a lot of cool stuff planned for Ninja-ja and there's certainly a good amount of you interested in it so you can expect a lot more to come!

This time we'll be sending out an email to everyone that purchased Ninja-ja which will include a link to the Ninja-ja updates page. Here you'll be able to grab any version of the game including all future updates. If you don't get the email within a few days email me at dbell1984@gmail.com

Here are the current changes in this update:

              Added Metal Sounds
              Added Grunt Sounds
              Added Death Sound
              Added Ninja Shadow
Added Intro Skip Ability (Just click anywhere)
              Added Health Bar Regen
              Added Combo Counter
Added Shuriken Weapon (It's a bit overpowered at the moment lol)
              Fixed Holes Overlapping Bug

As always, comments and suggestions are welcomed and encouraged.

              Thanks and enjoy!

Pokemon Tower Defense update is now up on the blog!

              • Dragon Rage, Metronome, Powdered Snow's cooldown is now 18.

              • Fixed a couple of attack description's type colors that were off.
Look at the previous blog for more details on what this update includes.

              Where can I play?

Ninja-ja: Alpha v1.3 update is now available!

To get the latest update check the Ninja-Ja Game Downloads page. We sent an email out with a link to everyone who purchased it but if you never got it or need some assistance just email me at dbell1984@gmail.com with the email address you used to make the purchase or TrialPay offer and I'll look into it for you.

Hey guys! Dan here, just letting you know there is now a new version of Ninja-ja out for those interested. It's still just survival at the moment but now you get to see your score and store it so you can try breaking your own records. Eventually you'll be able to compare your scores against others but it's not set up yet.

I'm hoping to start getting into some story elements soon as well as some RPG elements to give it more replay value. Right now it's more of a fun thing to just do every now and then but I'm hoping to turn it into something that gives you a sense of progress and accomplishment.

Also, don't worry! We haven't forgotten about the weapon/projectile requests that came with your purchase. I'll get to those eventually, just not yet.

              Here's the list of changes:

Android Graphics (One step closer in bringing it to the phone markets)
              Graphical Combo Counter With Multiplier
              SCT (Scrolling Combat Text)
              Added Footsteps Sound
              Shuriken Hit Limit (Nerf!)
              Score Level Totals
              Your Top Scores
Title BG Sound Bug (Overlapping after fame over restart)
              Added Profiles

That's all for now, thanks for the suggestions and support, enjoy!

              Update Distribution in Progress!

Just wanted to let you guys know that it is no longer possible to save and load your v3.3 account. I'm in the process of removing the dogs from the game. Once v3.4 comes out in a couple of hours you will be able to log into v3.4 and continue to play the update.

              Thanks.

Ninja-ja: Alpha v1.4 update is now available!

Well, I'm finally done with this update. You can get it at the Ninja-Ja updates page as always for those of you who bought it or did an offer.

Sam had to show me how to do all the database stuff which I've never done before so that took most awhile. I made some tweaks as well as added a bunch of stuff. The Top Scores page is now set up so you can compare your scores to others. Keep in mind this is a lesser version than what we will eventually have.. and there might be some bugs so be sure to let me know if you run into any problems. Also it'll probably get cleared once we release the real version that will only allow unique usernames and such but for now it's just there to have some fun with.

The next update should have a bit more fun stuff in it. I might be able to start the story mode and add other things related to that. Also hoping to add in the special abilities soon which I think will be pretty cool.

              Here's the list of changes:

              • Made Profiles Screen Go Directly To Menu Screen
              • Fixed Profile Overwrite Scores Bug
              • Shuriken Depth Hit Detection
              • Added Low Health Slow Heartbeat
              • Added Critical Health Fast Heartbeat
              • Added Skill Score
              • Added Top Score Notification
              • Added Top Scores Page
              • Added Stage Select Screen
              • Added New Stage

That's it for now, thanks for the suggestions and support, enjoy!

So where's the next Ninja-Ja: update?

Want to get the legendary dogs? Shiny Mew? or any other shiny pokemon in the game? Adopt them today using SnD coins! Purchase some SnD coins and get Ninja-ja bonus items free! Click here for more info.

Visit the PTD: Pokemon Center - a place to trade pokemon, get your Daily Code, adopt Pokemon, view your items and change your avatar!

For those of you who have been asking about when the next Ninja-Ja update will be out here's a quick explanation.

When I started on this update I had a few new features in mind that I wanted to add that would open the game up to more than just survival and top scores. As I was developing these features I realized some current things needed to be changed to accommodate the new stuff. What ended up happening was I noticed that some of the core code needed to be revamped a bit as it wasn't originally designed with these new features in mind. Also since I'm still a beginner at programming as I get better I notice some mistakes that I've made earlier that are hindering progress so I have to go back and fix them. This all adds up to a lot of work that needs to done before I continue with adding things but is good because once I have it in place then future updates should come faster.

So while I don't have an ETA for the next update it will have a bunch of new stuff like Story Mode which has an intro and boss fight, attacking as well as defending, actual enemies you can hit with ranged weapons, and different ranged weapon mechanics since they are primarily used for attacking now.

Anywho that's all for now, just wanted to keep you guys in the loop. Sorry for the delay! I know some of you are eager to try it out but bare with me while I get this set up properly and learn some more about programming so I can do things faster. As always any suggestions, comments, and general feedback is appreciated, thanks!

Hero Tower Defense Thursday: Day 15 - HTD Thursday's, Progress Update, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Go here to read the Day 14 of Hero Tower Defense Tuesdays.

Today is just a small update since it's Thanksgiving. I just wanted to give a brief rundown of our progress and some changes.

First, a reminder about the HTD day change. Sam was posting the PTD post later in the week at first but recently has been posting it on Monday because it works out better with his current scheduling of the weekly PTD update. Having the PTD post on Monday then immediately having the HTD post on Tuesday squishes things together. To remedy the problem we're going to change things a bit and have the PTD post on Monday and the HTD post on Thursday to have a better spread on the blog.

Next up I just want to say we're making pretty good progress on HTD and should make the late December release date as planned. We have some additional maps (the cave is multi-level) in the works by Kevin, Sam is adding more mechanics and features, and I'm working on the design of various things including the Tier 1 elemental and class moves and audio. So things are moving along nicely!

You can find more behind-the-scenes HTD art work on Kevin's blog, KXN @ HTD, check it out!

And last but not least (although it's a little late) Happy Thanksgiving!

All feedback is welcome and encouraged! You guys are a lot of help so be sure to let us know of any suggestions or ideas you have in the comments and thanks for all your help thus far!

              Where can I play?
WE MADE IT! Well almost... Multiplayer v1 is now up and ready to play. But I will be the first to say that while it's okay it's nowhere near what it should be. The reality is that one week is not enough to build a multiplayer feature. The fact that I got it working to this point is really a miracle. Just to make an example the first version of PTD took me 5 months of work on and off to just have about 11 pokemon, even less moves, level cap at 10, and only 3 levels. Multiplayer is a whole other beast, you have to deal with latency, match making, trying to keep the games in sync. Instead of saying hey it's not done please wait another week, I got to a good stopping point and released it as it was. So the way I see it multiplayer can only get better. But I've had worries about being able to keep it up for free and for all players. Well.. I have good news!

Thanks to our great sponsor we will be able to have free multiplayer for everybody! With one condition! That the multiplayer is exclusive to his website. So while you can still play here for the story mode, and challenge mode, the multiplayer will take you to the playtowerdefense.com website to play there. A small price to pay for getting your multiplayer for free!

In other news, like you guys know I always enjoy hearing from you guys and letting you guys experience the content as soon as possible. My friend GraphicForce suggested an idea of having a preview youtube video of what the weekly update will have, and I agreed. So each week GraphicForce will make a video previewing whatever is new on the update for that week before the update comes out. Click here to see the first PTD First Look!

In other other news, you guys decided what I should work on this week! The winners are story mode level and more achievements. So let's start there.

Hey guys and gals! Sam here giving you the weekly update for Sam and Dan Games. I just released a new alpha version of Pokemon Tower Defense 2. This release doesn't give you anything to play but it does reveal the subtitle for the game! Drum-roll please!...... Pokemon Tower Defense 2: Johto's Shadow!

I think this game will be slightly more darker than the previous one. I will still have funny moments and all the colorful stuff but I think the characters will be put into more dangerous situations than the last. But overall it will still be rated E for everyone so you don't have to worry about it.

If you have been following my twitter you might have noticed my dislike of making menus... I really just don't like them.... XD. They take a long time to make even if they are simple. If you look at the new version you can see that there isn't a lot there but all of that took me two days of work to get. I can't tell you how many times I tweaked something because it didn't look right or changed a color or tried something different. Now that I've finally revealed what I want in the title screen it's a good time to talk about the title screen contest!

              Title Screen Contest
Okay so I know a lot of you worked on your submissions but you will have to tweak it to include all the buttons and the subtitle from this version. The idea this time around is to have multiple title screens, that either appear randomly or the user can choose his favorite and just keep that one. So that means multiple winners! I haven't determined the prize yet but. since there will be multiple winners the prize will most likely be SnD Coins that you can use on whatever you want. To submit your entry just email me at sotero86@gmail.com with your entry attached and subject "PTD 2 Title Screen Contest". The size should be 800width by 480 height. Make sure to include everything in the title screen currently on PTD 2 and good luck! I will post up the top 10 entries in 3 weeks and let you guys vote for your favorite!

              Avatar chat is evolving!

I didn't mention our other game Creature Online Universe (Codename ANPO)  last week because I wanted to keep the focus on PTD 2, but this week I have more news on it. This game is a really long term project that will keep changing and evolving as it goes and in the end who knows what it will be like. It's like a living thing! Essentially this game will revolve around playing with other players online similar to an MMO but yet vastly different at the same time. Because of this, one of the first things that will show up in the game is just players chatting in a location, which sounds exactly like the Avatar Chat! So the avatar chat will be getting new avatars that will essentially be your character in Creature Online Universe.  Right now in the avatar chat you pretty much just have this one rectangle to live in and you can't leave it. So this first step is to have more room to walk around in. Then after that have building that you can go in. Then homes that you can buy, rent or sell. And so on. The Avatar chat will be evolving into what eventually will be Creature Universe! Just as a note: I'm mentioning this now but I don't have a specific date as to when this will actually happen. So just stay tuned every week.

              PTD 2 Mode: 1 vs 1
Looking at the poll One vs One is pretty much the winner! So this is what I will focus on first. The idea is that you start with a very basic pokemon and as you battle more you will unlock more pokemon to battle with. Each time trying to get farther and farther earning more rewards to help you come back and try again. As I mentioned in the last blog this mode will be a nice way for me to give you guys something substantial to play while the story mode is worked on. But even this mode won't be made in a couple of days so please be patient. A good thing about this mode is that it rewards your account with some pokemon the farther you get. In the mode the pokemon that you will use will not be available to use in the story mode/pokemon center. But as you get farther and reach certain goals you will get achievements that will give you pokemon as rewards and those you will be able to use in the story mode and will count for your pokedex.

This time around a lot of the rewards that you will get will not revolve around generation 2. My thought right now is that most mystery gifts and achievement rewards will be pokemon from other generations. So look forward to that!

That is all I have for you guys this week, follow me on twitter for constant updates and come back on Thursday for some new Hero Tower Defense news. As always let me know what you think!

Ho ho ho! Santa Sam here bring you the gifts this holiday season! Today I released v1.28 of PTD2 and it includes the much anticipated Shiny Chimchar Mystery Gift!

              Holidays
As many of you know the holidays can be extremely busy for everybody. I think one of the biggest challenges a person can deal with when making games is the balance of work and life. For a lot of developers work is their life but this can be a dangerous thing. For me personally I value loved ones a lot and I always try to give them priority when it comes to my time but the reality is that it is you guys that really make paying the bills possible so I value you too. Without you guys I wouldn't be able to do what I love as a living and for that you guys will always have my thanks.

              This Week's Mystery Gift
I'll be bringing the same poll as last week back to decide the type of the next mystery gift, and then I will do a poll as to which specific pokemon from that type it will be. Go ahead and vote to decide the next mystery gift.

              Bringing the towns to life!
This week I want to focus on the towns and cities of the game. I want to add violet city along with the bellsprout/onix trade and a harder rematch with Falkner that will be optional. Also Cherrygrove City will finally be restored and the people will be back in their houses. Maybe even a flower shop!

              Creature Universe TD
Creature Universe is progressing nicely in the concept stage. As far as the game itself I'm still prototyping things so it's far from a release but I hope early next year we can start releasing something. These past weeks we have been trying to finalize names for the creatures we have revealed along with finalizing their colors. I'm also designing the first few levels of the game. The game will have at least 100 different creatures and over 40 different levels to play.

                        Latest PTD2 Update
The last PTD2 update v1.36 and 1.36.1 brought a whole lot of new things. I want to quickly go over them. Last week we added 4 new families to transfer from PTD1 over to PTD2. The Pikachu, Sandshrew, Nidoran Female, and Nidoran Male families. A really great side effect of bringing over the Pikachu Family is that you can now breed Pikachus to get your very own Pichu! If you don't know how to transfer from PTD1 to PTD2 visit our FAQ page for more information. We also added 2 new evolution items. The Dusk Stone and the Reaper Cloth. These items will evolve the Ghost Pokemon we recently had for the mystery gift. Speaking of Mystery Gift we added the Steel pokemon week Shiny Aron as the Mystery Gift for this week. A new tradition I started is to give away the runner up from the Mystery Gift pool in a series of giveaways during the week. This week we gave out shiny Beldum. Today I will do another giveaway after 10PM Eastern Time for more Shiny Beldum so stay tuned on my twitter to find out when. Last but not least we increased the Soft Level Cap to 25! This added 37 new moves to the game that your pokemon can now relearn!

The Amazing Breeder, Rock Solid and Slice and Dice!
So the next update v1.37 will bring in more PTD1 to PTD2 transfers this time one of the most requested pokemon will show up. That pokemon is Ditto! The reason people want Ditto is that Ditto is able to breed with most pokemon especially those that don't have gender like Beldum and Golett. The other pokemon that I'm bringing over is the rock solid Onix and the slice and dicer Scyther! Why those two? Well I think you can figure that out. They both evolve by trading them with the item Metal Coat. Which means the Metal Coat will be available in the game. This time it will be different, instead of it just showing up in the item store you will have to find them hidden in the game then once you find the item, they will be unlocked to buy in the item store.

                        Story Level
I have been recently been focusing on  adding new pokemon to the game and adding new attacks. That is still my focus but I have to agree that it has been a while since we had some story action. This level will have the gang finally head over to the Ruins of Alph after your encounter with the Unown. What secrets will you discover and why where the Unown grabbing the stones away? Maybe we will find out!

                        Mystery Gift
Like every week we will have a Mystery Gift. So far it looks like Ice type is winning but let's see if somehow things change. Like last week we will also have the runner up pokemon giveaways. I'm aware that people that created multiple accounts can receive a giveaway pokemon for each account. I'm going to look into ways where I can limit that. Also I'll try to do the giveaways at different times so that people in different time zones can have a chance at getting them. Some have mentioned to have the giveaway available for a whole day but I think that will greatly reduce the value of the giveaway. Lastly some of you have mentioned adding the giveaways in the adoption center and I believe I will slowly add them starting this week with Luvdisc.

                        Cosmoids UI and Move Types
Didn't get a whole lot of work done on Cosmoids. The soft level cap increase took a lot longer than I expected so I didn't get that much time. This week I'm going to focus on smaller more specific goals so that I can tackle them much easier. A big thing about Cosmoids that we are planning to do is to only allow you to have one creature out at a time. Meaning you will always have your characters tower plus one creature. You can swap at any time to a different creature. So this week I will be setting up that functionality in the early alpha and seeing how it plays out. Sometimes when you are making games you really have to build your idea out before you can say for sure if it is good or not and I think this is one of those cases. The other thing I want to work on for Cosmoids this week is a new type of move type. This move type will have you dragging the attack to the spot you want the attack to happen. Your character will have an attack like this with a long cooldown.

                        Weekly Progress
Now that we have looked at what we will be working on this week, let's take a look at the specifics. I will be updating this during the week as I work on it all week.

                        Status: Not Working.

                          What's New
It has been chaos, to say the least, these past couple of weeks. For the first time in my life I moved out of my parents house and into my own apartment. All of this in preparation for my wedding which is 2 short months from now! Chaos might have been a soft word. With all the moving also came computer problems. I had to take my development computer to be fixed and now my old computer is giving me trouble. I've never had this much trouble before! While I haven't been able to really sit down and work on anything my mind has not stopped thinking about what and who is making all of this possible. You guys and gals are the reason I'm able to push my life into the next stage and I'm able to wake up every day and think about making video games instead of coding something I have no interest in for somebody I don't even really know. Because of that I will give it my all as long as you guys will have me.

I did manage a few things, Cosmoids got a small update, some tweaks on the first level to make it a bit shorter and some massive changes to the tutorials so they are easier to understand and more to the point.

                          Speaking of Cosmoids...

Designing a game before coding it
The way I make Pokemon Tower Defense is that each week I think about what to work on next and early in the week I will make a plan, write the blog with my plan and then I try to accomplish my plan. In more detail this means I'm making it up as I go. Each week I think about where the story could go. While I have some very basic plans for the overall story, the lines of dialog and the different events that will happen are not planned out months in advance. At the most I will have an idea like having Mewthree win, and then slowly during the week I will think about how this will happen. Same with the battles, ptd1 transfers, new attacks. Having been doing this for a few years now I can see that there are benefits to this method. The main benefit is the speed that you can put things out. There are however some drawbacks to this style. I think an obvious example is the Avatars in PTD1. Your player doesn't have an avatar until later in the game. This is the result of not having time to add it initially but then eventually getting the time and figuring out how to add it in. Going back and adding it to all the previous levels would have been a big undertaking that would have stalled the game updates so I was never willing to do it. At the same thing I think it is odd to add new things as you go and having the old content not take advantage of these things.

So for Cosmoids I want to design the game in advance before I make it. What this means is that I will be coming up with the levels and moves in advance before I actually code them. Then I will see what everything looks like and be able to implements new things into the whole game instead of just adding them as I go. So far I have designed up to level 5. My goal for the game is for it to have about 40ish levels before I consider it complete.

Designing a level doesn't take a very long time but making it interesting, challenging, and fun can be quite a challenge. For Cosmoids we are following a similar formula that PTD1 has. You watch a story scene then you play the level and you watch another story scene. So the first thing you have to think about is where is your story at. What happened in the previous level, in the previous story scene and where do you want the story to go and how will it tie into the next Cosmoids you want to use on the next level. Then you think about what attacks should this new Cosmoid have and how is it different from the others. What kind of different role can it take. Finally using those new attacks you create an idea for how the level itself will play. What will be the challenge on the level. How will you test the player. Will it be a puzzle or the ability to dodge moves. Or will he have to have Cosmoids that have high defense. A lot of thought goes into making each level. So being able to focus on just the design lets you do it quick and it also lets you see the big picture quicker which can hopefully lead to the game feeling more unified.

Going to the past: The next PTD2 Story Update
It's going to be a good one! Mewthree has taken over the world with his massive clones, your friends, family and heroes are about to be captured. Celebi, the time traveling pokemon, shows up and offers you a chance to save the world but you must go to the past to change it! This update will have you going to the past. You will be able to visit the locations that you have already visited but 10 years into the past. In the world you aren't born yet and Silver is still alive! What can do you to stop the events in the future? Only time will tell.

The past will be a different place, while the maps themselves will look the same, you can expect more people to be around, and different house and buildings to be accessible.

You will be able to enter the poke mart and buy items. You will be able to enter the pokemon center and rest until night time, day time or early morning. Essentially giving you control over the time of day. There will be more trainer battles in the Routes.

Another cool feature is that you can travel back to the future! Talking to celebi from your pokepad will allow you to travel back a few moments before Mewthree took over the region, allowing you to replay old battles or talk to people in the future after finding out more about them in the past.

There is a lot of content to be added to make this update possible and I hope you guys enjoy the things I have planned.

                                                    PTD2 Update 1.49 Released!
I just finished a new update it contains a lot of goodies for you guys and gals.

                                                    • Pokemon Size Adjustments - This was a long time coming. Usually I would resize pokemon manually and more or less estimate how big or small they should be. What I did was changed it so the sizes are automatically figured out using programming instead of me doing it manually. From 0 to 10 feet units will scale at a faster pace than from 10 or higher feet. If it all scales the same you end up with giant Steelix. So I used rattata to figure out 1 foot and your character represents 5 feet. Then I took my Steelix size and made that the measure for how the bigger pokemon should scale. The outcome is that sizes should be more consistent now. Some pokemon got smaller and some got bigger but should be accurate to the game.
                                                    • Soft Level Cap Increased to 36 - Added 11 new attacks to reach the 36 soft level cap. Please note that pokemon that can learn these attacks will be able to learn them even if they are learned at a higher level than the soft cap.
                                                      • X-Scissor, Megahorn, Shadow Claw, Flash Cannon, Dizzy Punch, Psycho Cut, Whirlpool, Stone Edge, Venoshock, Blaze Kick, and Sludge Bomb.
                                                    • The promised Giveaway Pokemon - This coming week I will be giving away Shiny Tepig, Gothita and Electrike.
                                                    • PTD1 to PTD2 Transfers - 15 new pokemon to transfer over! Go to the PTD1 Pokemon Center to transfer your pokemon from ptd1 to ptd2. Keep in mind you can't transfer them back to PTD1 once you transfer them over.

Hello! I hope you enjoyed my little April Fools joke! PTD will not be closing down and I will not get rid of accounts, so don't worry about it! I tried to make it really obvious because I didn't want to worry any of you. :)

I released v6.5 which contains Shadow Missing No as Mystery Gift and that is the only new thing there. You might noticed that I put the graphics in for the new level in the chapter select and level select, those won't work until the final update is out.

Speaking of the final update I'm making progress as you can see below. Keep checking back all week while I  make updates :) cheer me on!

Want to get the Shiny legendary dogs? Shiny Mew? or any other shiny pokemon in the game? Adopt them today using SnD coins! Click here for more info.

Visit the PTD: Pokemon Center - a place to trade pokemon, get your Daily Code, adopt Pokemon, view your items and change your avatar!

I'm feeling a bit sick so I will make this short and sweet.

                                                    Zorua won the poll!

I'm still working on PTD 2!

Still don't have a date for it to come out yet (good things take time to create)

Next week I will have a non-gaming announcement to make.

Thanks for all the support, let me know what you think!

                                                    HTD

I'll just add a small update on HTD here. There's not much to report other than we're continuing to make progress on the graphics front. Sam needed to postpone working on the new graphics system in order to take care of personal matters. I'll be making a more in-depth post for HTD at some point this coming week. Have a good weekend everyone!
