Pokemon Tower Defense: Level 6 progress, Weekly Updates, and more.

UPDATE 3: Level is about 85.111233232% done! About an hour if everything goes smoothly!

UPDATE 2: Update is still coming tonight, just a heads up this next level is going to be a free roam level, meaning no candy, you can capture everything in the level, bunch of waves. The levels are design as a good way to level up and capture pokemon, however no money will be awarded in the free roam levels. If I have some extra time I will include 2 free roam levels in this update so that it's easier to get pikachu.

UPDATE: This next update will be done by Sunday night the latest, won't be done today Saturday :( Thanks for your patience.

Hey guys! It's me again, so it looks like most of you want the updates to come on a weekly basis (me too!). I think that looking forward to an update on a weekly basis is fun, it reminds me of waiting each week for my favorite tv show to come on so I can watch it. Out of 2442 (I swear this thing got reset or something) 21% wanted monthly big juicy updates but, 78% wanted weekly quick updates!

This next poll is about where you play the game, I'm interest to see which version I should focus on more.

I'm making a list for level 6 so you guys can see where the progress is at, I must note that coming up with a level probably takes longer than actually making it.

New Pokemon, with all Moves up to lvl 20:

  • Spearow with 3 new moves (100% done)
  • Nidoran Male with 1 new move (100% done)
  • Nidoran Female with 1 new move (100%, done)
  • Jigglypuff with 4 new moves (100% done)
  • Mankey with 3 new moves (100% done) (Not doing the move Covet since there are no items)
New Evolutions with all Moves up to lvl 20:
  • Nidorina no new moves (100% done)
  • Nidorino no new moves (100% done)
  • Fearow no new moves (100% done)
Also don't forget to get your Shiny Starter, by donating any amount you will receive a code that you can put in the mystery gift and change your starter into a shiny. Also if you donate 10 or more you will also get rare candies and evolutions stone, finally if you donate 20 or more you will get all the previous gifts plus your very own shiny Mew!  To donate click on the donate button on the top right corner of the page.

NOTE: I'm currently giving out the shiny starters the other gifts will be given out at a later date.

A fan of the game, Peter Thompson, wrote a great article that has to do with this game. You guys should check it out ! http://thompsonpeters.blogspot.com/2011/03/whats-in-game-would-roselia-by-any.html

Also I'm making a tab with the latest links to the game, so that it's easier to find, but I will post them here just in case.

Pokemon Tower Defense: This week's update: Level 7 Work in Progress List

This week's update is starting to shape up so I figured I would keep you guys updated on what's happening. Let's get to it.

Fixes/Tweaks: Pretty much all of these fixes are due to feedback that all of you have given me, either directly or indirectly. So keep it coming :) (Note: All these fixes are finished and will be available on this update coming up)

  1. Fixed badges showing up on profiles that didn't earn the badge yet.
  2. Level Select screen no longer requires scrolling (more of grid style).
  3. Shiny pokemon will get more experience per kill, roughly 50% more.
  4. If you have your sound fx and music muted, leveling up or evolving will no longer be heard.
  5. Lowered the amount of time the evolving popup window stays on before your pokemon evolves.
  6. Added an small animation to your pokemon when it's evolving.
  7. Pokemon that can't be captured now have a dark blue life bar.
  8. The game version number will be on the main screen so you know which version you are playing.
  9. Game saves more often now. (When you exit a level, and when you exit or enter the party select screen).
  10. Changed "Attack Speed" to "Attack Cooldown" in the attack description so that it makes more sense what that number really means.
  11. When your pokemon is ready to level up but you don't have enough money, he will have a red arrow but it won't blink anymore. Once you have enough money it will blink. This applies both to the party select screen and when you are playing a level.
  12. The graphic for Water gun is now 50% faster (Thanks zShenanigans)
  13. Pressing the back button (on phones) will in a level, will now show the exit confirmation dialog box.
  14.  The game will no longer let your phone go into sleep mode while it is on.
  15. Route 1 (Level 2) -Changed the spot close to the candy, moved it up so that it's easier to select your pokemon in that spot and added more room at the bottom of the level so that you can select the pokemon at the bottom row.
  16. Route 2 (Level 3) -
  17. Moved the spot close to the candy to make it more useful.
  18. Pewter Gym (Level 5) - You will not have a pokemon taken away from you on this level, the intro was changed slightly to make up for this.
  19. Viridian Forest (Level 4) - Slightly tweaked how the bug catcher meets joey.
  20. Route 3 (Level 6) Fixes -
  • Missing background in the intro.
  • Skip button showing up before you viewed the intro at least once.
  • All free roam pokemon will now give out money, but at a reduced rate. (1 per pokemon)
  • Added more room at the bottom of the level so that you can select pokemon at the bottom row.
New Features:

Save Profile Online: This allows you to make a backup of your save file, that you can secure using a name and password. (100% done)

Import Profile Online: Using the name and password that you used to save the profile, you can import it wherever you want to play the game at. (The game must be v.2.0 for this to work.) (100% done)

New Pokemon:

Shiny Mew with 4 new moves (100% done)
New Pokemon for Level 7 with 2 new moves(100% done)

Levels:

Viridian Forest Free Roam (Level 7):
  • Intro (100% done)
  • Level (100% done)
  • Ending (100% done)
Other stuff:

I know I said other features (pokemart, inventory) were coming but I might not have time to finish them. If I do end up having time I will post them here. As usual let me know what you think!

Also if you haven't already read the blog post before this one to check out the next game I'm working on Ninja-ja! Thanks.

Pokemon Tower Defense: Level 8 is out! Alpha v2.1

Level 8 is done are ready to be played, but please read this first before you go!

You will know if you are playing the new version because it will say Alpha v2.1.

First of all, I want to explain the pokemart. You go to the pokemart you buy the stone that you need, then you go select a level to play and on the party select screen you press on the pokemon that you want to use the stone with. You will see a button there "Use Item". Click on that, if the pokemon can use that stone you will see it there.

Second, on Level 8 - Mt Moon 1, there is a spot on the map that you put your pokemon in that looks brown instead of the usual orange. That spot is meant only for Rock Type pokemon! It's not a bug, only rock type pokemon can go there.

Third, codes for evolution stones for people who donated in the past will have to wait until next week, I didn't get a chance to add that into the game.

I will have a proper inventory screen later on, and the pokemart will get prettier as time goes on.

Fourth, I have currently sent the swf file to Newgrounds- Updated, Gamerfish-Updated, Freeworldgroup, Mofunzone, playtowerdefensegames - updated, funny games, OneMoreLevel.com. Let me know if there is a site that you want me to send the update to!

Lastly, the level is possible to finish, trust me I have done it without cheating. Yes the level is difficult, enjoy.

I think everybody out there has their own idea of what a perfect (but doable) weekly update would be. So why don't you let me know, but don't email me (I have plenty of emails!), post it on the forums http://s4.zetaboards.com/poketd so that everybody can see and comment on your individual suggestions (The comment space bellow is too hard to sort). If you guys come up with a good (doable) weekly update I will try to make it happen.
    Just a couple of rules:
    1. You can suggest a story level but don't suggest a storyline since I already have that set.
    2. You can suggest a challenge mode and design one if you want.
Let me know about level cap, new moves, tms, new achievements, and even tell me which shiny hunt pokemon I should give out.

Let's make it happen, let me know what you think of this update and let me know what your perfect, but doable, weekly update would be.

Okay so we are starting this week's update a little late but I will update this weekend. First if you haven't seen my brother's fan film I suggest you check it out, it came out great. He told me he is making a second video since you guys liked it so much. We also thought that you guys would enjoy a different point of view of the events in the game rather than just follow the game exactly so the movies will follow two new trainers.

      Pokemon TD Fan Film
The Game Corner is out, you can play up to 500 times every day. You get 100 coins to start, if you ever go down to 0 then you will get 100 coins again, compliments of Giovanni himself. Different Machines have different rates of winning and different rates on their prizes. Some machines win more often, some win less often. Some have higher chances to win better prizes. You can win 8, 15, 100 or 300 coins. Play every day and save up for the new pokemon. Some of you, before the Game Corner came out, in the blog comments mentioned that you would like to buy the shiny versions of the pokemon with the casino coins, I thought it was a great idea but obviously the price for them has to be extreme since shiny pokemon are meant to be something that takes some time to get.

I get a lot of request by email or in the comments about converting Pokedollars to SnD Coins or Casino Coins. Before I can properly answer this question I have to address Pokedollars, right now getting a huge amount of Pokedollars is very easy to do, so providing a way to convert them to SnD Coins or Casino Coins essentially means that you could have an unlimited supply of SnD Coins and Casino Coins. I have decided that I'll be adding Casino coins to the Daily Codes. Instead of getting normal pokemon with breeding moves often you will get Casino coins often and the pokemon will be uncommon. The more you pay for the code the more Casino coins you can get. This will be implemented by this weekend.

Okay so let's talk about this weekend's update. These are the main things I want to get done.

These are for v4.1 which will be out this weekend.

Distribution (0%) - Creating all the different version, sending out the different versions to all it's locations.

I want to increase the level cap up to 50 but I don't know if I will make it so I will do it one level at the time. When that level is done I will post the next one.
      • Level Cap Increase to 45 (100%) - New Moves (4)
        • Horn Drill (100%) - Nidoran Male
        • Fissure (100%) - Diglett
        • Punishment (100%) - Mankey
        • Lock-On (100%) - Porygon
      • Level Cap Increase to 46 (100%) - New Moves (2)
        • Quiver Dance (100%) - Butterfree
        • Curse (100%) - Onix
      • Level Cap Increase to 47 (100%) - New Moves (5)
        • Hyper Beam (100%) - Gyarados
        • Leaf Storm (100%) - Victreebel
        • Wring Out (100%) - Bellsprout
        • Grudge (Skipped) - Vulpix - There is no PP in the game so this move will be skipped. In the future I might come back and add it.
        • Guillotine (100%) - Pinsir
The other big thing I want to do is add potions to the game, the first implementation gives you the regular potion for free as a default, eventually you will be able to buy upgrades for the potions. Once you upgrade you will get the updated potion for now on. With potions you will be limited to using 6 potions per level. Once you use 6 you won't be able to use it anymore until you start a new level. 6 should be enough to provide you a chance to beat the more difficult levels. They will work like the pokeball, you can drag it to your tower or drag it to the button at the bottom of the screen. I will also be adding the life bar to the button for each pokemon, so it will help you keep track of the tower's health.
Scyther doing Fissure (He can't learn it, I'm only testing). Notice the life bar in the button, and the potion above the pokeball.
          • Adding life bars to the tower buttons (100%)
          • Adding the regular potions to the game (100%) - Drag this to the towers to heal that pokemon for 20 health. Does not work on enemy pokemon.

Like I mentioned before I want to add Casino Coins to the Daily Codes and tweak some of the numbers on that.
            • Add Casino Coins to Daily Codes (100%) - Casino Coins will become the easiest prize to get on Daily Coins. This is available now!
            • Tweak the Daily Code prizes percentage to fit in the Casino Coins (100%)
The last thing I will work on is the big bugs that are hitting the game right now. The button pictures of the new pokemon are not showing correctly. (Examples: Eevee evolutions show gyarados, porygon, pinsir, scyther showing up as moltres, and new shinies showing up as Bulbasaur). Another bug is the life bars of your towers, making them behave correctly when you take damage. Also there is a bug when you remove your pokemon before it dies, so I will try to squash that also. Another small bug is pokemon in the Celadon Gym Level are running away after using their powder attacks (poison powder, sleep powder).
            • The tower's button showing the wrong pokemon (Ex. Flareon showing as Gyarados) (100%)
            • Tower's Life bar not showing correctly when taking damage (100%)
            • Removing a Tower before it dies bugs out (100%)
            • Enemy in Celadon gym turning around after using Sleep Power or Poison Powder (100%)
            • Fix False Swipe to actually work (100%)
            • Fix Daily Codes Reset (100%) - This is available now, you will no longer be able to use the code as much as you want on certain occasions.
            • Allow only members of Team Rocket to play in the game corner (100%) This is available now! This was made because you guys voted it to be this way!
            • Fixed a bug that was causing your moves not to go on cooldown when you missed (100%)
I was going to add a new challenge level but because I'm starting at the middle of the week I won't be able to fit that in.

We are about half way done with the story mode, 4 more gym battles, the elite 4, and then the final battle against Mewthree!

As always let me know what you think about the game, and about all things going on with Sam & Dan Games.

Hey guys! V5.8.1 of Pokemon Tower Defense is officially released! Go get your Ponyta and swf, exe, and apk files! I didn't have enough time for the co-op level last week so this week I will see to it. I hope those of you who are far enough enjoyed the Zapdos fight, you can expect similar type of battles for the other birds when we get to them. This week we will continue the story along with some other things.

So to change it up a bit I wanted to talk about what the thought process was for creating the Zapdos fight, and the general process of coming up with a new level for each week.

Step 1: What's going to happen next? - So I have an idea in my head of what the story is going to end like, almost like some bullet points, but the actual details I come up with each week. In this case the gang had just finished spending some time at the Safari Zone, kinda relaxing and just capturing new pokemon. So I thought it was time to make something exciting happen in the story. Your characters had not been to the cycling road so I thought there needed to be a reason to go there. Originally I thought that Gary would show up and tell you that you needed to go to Professor Oak to learn Surf but I didn't want to go to Viridian City again yet since that will be the last gym. I also thought of the possibility of not meeting Gary but another friend on the Cycling Road but I thought I was running out of time and I needed to deal with Gary and the birds in order to move on. Plus I thought the idea of the next level being Gary and the legendary bird would excite the players (you guys). As far as what happens in the level. I always like to make fun of Joey, and just show that our gang still has fun along the way. Also a good reason to travel to the Cycling Road was that they hadn't gone there yet as Joey mentions. Since Gary was running away from the birds I wanted to see him cornered and you show up to save the day! Also making this level with Gary and Zapdos facing off I thought of something interesting for the story and I left some small hints of it in the scene.

Step 2: Level Design - Usually on Monday I will think of the general theme of the next level. Last week was Gary and Zapdos. I knew I wanted to make the fight with the legendary birds.... errr legendary. So I thought okay I want this fight to just be you and Zapdos but Gary is there so he needs something to do. I put that aside for a moment and thought that Zapdos is electric so I want him to be sending out attacks very often and that they should affect your whole group. So since Zapdos will be doing a lot of damage to your party Gary would be perfect to heal your pokemon, similar to Celebi. But I wanted to add more work to the healing, so unlike Celebi you have to actually take your pokemon away from battle to get healed. A player a long time ago suggested an idea to have nurse joy on the side line and you sent your pokemon there to be healed. This was a variation of that idea. Now back to Zapdos. First I thought okay Ground is immune to electric attacks so I would use Drill peck to counter that, which also brought the idea of he being able to target anybody in the field regardless of their position. But I read that flying doesn't do a lot of damage to ground and I didn't want everybody to have to get ground pokemon to beat the level. So I made all damage be a set amount. Also I thought simply removing your units from the field to prevent damage was overplayed and would remove the need to use Gary so I added way for Zapdos to wait for your units to be ready which introduced some bugs (when your party dies the level doesn't end since Zapdos is waiting for a target).

Step 3: Implementation, Balance and Testing (Making it happen!) - This part is the last part to happen, once I have my ideas I set out to animate the scenes make the new characters and create the new moves for the level. In this case most of the characters were done, I just had to make Gary into a Tower and create the new moves for Gary and Zapdos. The new moves can sometimes create technical difficulties. I can spend a good amount of hours bug fixing or just balancing the moves so they do enough damage. Once the bugs are cleared I create a team of pokemon that will be the best to beat the level. In this case I made a team of 6 level 90 Rhydon with Stone edge, I didn't buff them but I thought it would give me a good idea of what kind of damage the players would be able to put out. I played it until it took at least 6 waves to beat him while moving the pokemon around to get healed etc and moving them around to always be attacking Zapdos. After that I tweaked with Zapdos stats a bit to make it just right.

So I hope you guys enjoy seeing what it takes to make the level happen. Now on to the progress list! (Note that Hero Tower Defense Progress will stay in the HTD post from last week)

            Weekly PTD progress:

PTD 2 1v1 Level 1 Released and PTD2's Name Change!

Want to get the Shiny legendary dogs? Shiny Mew? or any other shiny pokemon in the game? Adopt them today using SnD coins! Click here for more info.

Visit the PTD: Pokemon Center - a place to trade pokemon, get your Daily Code, adopt Pokemon, view your items and change your avatar!

You can play by going to the "Play PTD2" tab.

            Pokemon Center Progress List:
            • Add de-leveling feature (0%) - For Casino Coins or SnD Coins (Similar to removing hacked version) you can lower the level of your pokemon. The purpose of this feature was to allow you to use your pokemon from ptd1 earlier in ptd2 but my faithful fans from the forum do not agree this is a good features. They argue that this will make the game too easy. (They are right! Level 10 Mewtwo still pwnes you!) So I will listen to them and not add it. I'm listening guys/gals!
New Level, Bug Fixes, New Additions v1.10 (08/16/12): Released now!
            • Level 5 1v1 mode
              • Intro
              • Level Background
              • Waves
              • Ending
            •  Attack Foresight needed a better attack graphic
            • Fixed an issue that was showing the wrong HP value in the pokemon check screen after playing a level
            • Added a stacking global cooldown to changing attacks on a pokemon - every time you change and attack a small 0.3 second global cooldown will be added to your pokemon. Normal play will not change, but spamming your keyboard changing attacks constantly will result in your pokemon not being able to know what you are asking him to do (a long global cooldown that resets once its done)
            • Fixed a problem with a pokemon learning a new move and another pokemon evolving at the same time, or two pokemon evolving at the same time
            • Added a confirmation popup when you try to exit 1v1 mode
            • Fixed pokemon getting hit when they are removed from the stage
            • Fixed Kakuna and Metapod not learning Harden when they evolve
            • Added unlockable Metapod, Butterfree, Kakuna and Beedrill when you evolve Caterpie or Weedle

            • Changed Antidote to be unlocked at level 2
            • Added new item Parlyz Heal unlocked at level 3
            • Add a multiplayer map for 1v1 mode (Postponed due to poll results)- Before I get too deep into creating the story mode I have to make sure multiplayer will work with the new setup. So I have to start making/testing it as soon as possible. This will help story mode have multiplayer that actually works.

                PTD 2 1v1 Mode Released!
PTD 2 1v1 mode level one is now released!!!! Wooo hoooo! It took a long time just to get to this point so I want to talk more about the work that I did and about the 1v1 mode itself.

When you play the level you will notice how short it is and might ask yourself, "Why did this take so long?" well the truth is that so much has changed inside of the game that it's unbelievable. You can expact 2-3 new levels next week for 1v1 mode since a lot of the foundation has been completed.

Some major things that didn't make it in were the items. I almost had those done but I really wanted to focus on just getting the level out first. Also the pokemon check menu in the party select screen needs major work still and those things will come in the near future.

For the level itself it was a lot of fun to bring back Joey for this mode. I thought it would be hilarious to see Joey go through this virtual training and I'm looking forward to seeing how he does in there.

For the mode itself everything you play you will be trying to reach as far as you can go, right now there is only 1 level so it's not very challenging to beat it but eventually there should be at least 100 levels for you to try to reach. If you lose you will start over but will get to retain any coins you gathered. If you go below 10 coins it will automatically reset your coin amount to 10 when you restart. Also any pokemon or items that you have unlocked will stay unlocked so that you can start with a more powerful pokemon the second time around.

I would love to hear more about what you think of this mode so far.

                PTD2's Name Change
The big elephant in the room would be the sudden title change for the game. We went from Johto's Shadow to Generations. Today I want to talk more about what this change. It is more than just a name change as you might imagine. PTD 2 will now contain pokemon and locations from all generations of pokemon!

Another big change is how you will play the game.. and this is HUGE change so listen up!

You will now be able to move around with your avatar and partners just like the real game! You will be able to travel from one region to another, truly being able to catch them all in one game.

So what will be happening is that along the way you will encounter different people that need your help or are causing trouble. They will give you quest and you must complete and will unlock the ability to capture different pokemon. When somebody challenges you to a fight or when you run into pokemon in the wild (you will see the pokemon walking around in the map!) it will go into tower defense mode and you will battle in Tower Defense style.

So this game will be what I like to call an "Open World Pokemon Tower Defense Game".

A lot of the quest will be inspired by the anime so you will get to play out some fun events similar to the anime. There will also be quest that will be completely original designed by me!

All of this will be for the story mode which will come at a future date, for now I'm focusing on getting more attacks and pokemon ready for 1v1 mode.

I'm really excited about all of this and I hope you guys are too! As always let me know what you think!

Hi everyone! Last week we had the second level of the story mode released. We got to walk around and talk to the citizens of New Bark Town and go on a little quest to save our starter. This is but the tip of the ice berg for story mode and hopefully you got a taste of what is to come. Did you like it better than the PTD1 style of just watching an intro playing the level and watching an ending? Let me know! Your feedback here in the comments, twitter, emails, facebook and on the forums help shape this game. Like I've said before I spend a good amount of time reading everything you guys write. I might not have enough time to answer them all like I used to but I do the best that I can to answer ones that are crucial or easy enough for a quick answer.

Okay so moving on to this week we will have both a new 1v1 level and a new story level! Lots of new content coming your way.

For both the Story and 1v1 level I will be adding some new technology to the game engine. I've been meaning to add this for a while but haven't had a lot of time. The new technology will be for the trainer you are battling against. Usually they will bring out a pokemon and you defeat that pokemon then they bring out their next one. It's very similar to how the waves work in PTD1 because I'm using the same engine for the trainers that I use in the waves. The new tech will be to allow for the trainers to have a team like you do and to be able to switch out pokemon in battle just like you can. Which will make the fights more interesting and dynamic.

Other than the new tech, 1v1 will now be headed to Route 3, we got some trainers to fight there and also a new pokemon to unlock. Can you guess who it is? All I can say is that it likes to sing a lot.

Speaking of sing, I will be making some changes to how the sleep mechanic works. Previously it would just put you to sleep for a certain amount of time regardless of how much damage you took. Now it will put you to sleep for a longer amount of time but taking damage will most likely cause you to wake up. Making it better for use against somebody that is attack you.

For the Story mode you will be challenged to your first fight. Speaking of this fight I've had reports of people finding an interesting way of leveling up your starter past level 7. This is pretty much my mistake so don't worry if you did it, I will be fixing it in the next version so it should no longer be possible.

Speaking of leveling, I also want to announce a new feature (inspired by my playing of Guild Wars 2)! In PTD1 you could very easily just level up enough so that a level was incredibly easy. In PTD2 there will be a limit as to how high you can be for each level to preserve that level's difficulty (to a point). So for example, lets say your starter is level 12 and you go into Route 29 (The first route in Johto). That means you would massively out level this stage. Most pokemon on this level will be level 2-4. What the game will do is temporarily turn your level 12 pokemon into a level 6 pokemon. Your pokemon will keeps its attacks, evolution, and abilities but it will have stats like it was level 6. Notice that the cap is higher than the highest level in the area but it is still within a certain range. Also since you get to keep your attacks and evolution you will still have an advantage. It just makes it so you can't simply steam roll everything once you get level 100 pokemon. What do you think?

I also plan to bring out the first Mystery Gift! We had a poll a while back and the first Mystery Gift for PTD 2 will be Zorua! Mystery Gift codes will be done a tiny bit different, you will still go to PlayTowerDefenseGames.com and try to figure out the code and you will also enter the code on that site's version of PTD2. Before you could go to any site and enter it but now it is exclusive to their site. Since most people would just find the code on a different site and just use it straight off without visiting our great sponsor.

Lastly I'll also be working on the PTD2 Pokemon Center. It will be very similar to the PTD1 but I still have to do a lot infrastructure changes. I don't think it will be out this week since I have so much to do but I hope to get a good amount done and who knows maybe it will be out too.

Alright so that was quite a bit of info. Let's look at the Weekly Progress list next. Also remember I update this while I'm working so make sure to come back every once in a while to see how I'm doing :)

                • Increased Coin rewards for any level that gave less than 20 coins to 20 coins - This is help reduce the feeling that you need to grind a lot for coins. Alright now let's talk a bit about Creature Universe TD. Many of you might not know but Dan and I hold team meetings every week. We chat with our artist about Creature Universe, we see what everybody is working on and talk about the design of the game. So for the last few weeks we have been talking about the types that we were going to use for Creature Universe. This hasn't been an easy task. We all had different opinions. Some of us wanted to remove some types. Others wanted to add even more types. In the end we started from the beginning and asked ourselves which types MUST be around. After we figured that out we went ahead and added some new ones, combined some other ones and even removed some. Here is the list of the types that will be in Creature Universe! Granted this list could still be tweaked in the future. But for now this is what we have decided.

Normal/Neutral - Unlike Pokemon this type will actually be Neutral to all other types. It has no weaknesses but also no advantages. This type will also be more limited than I pokemon where a bunch of creatures had this type along with another one.
                Fire/Flame - Pretty self explanatory.
                Water/Aquatic - See Fire.
                Grass/Plant - See Water.
                Electric/Lightning - See Grass.
Air - This type is pretty much what flying is in pokemon.
                Ice - See Electric.
Ground/Earth - This type combines what pokemon would have as Ground and Rock into one type.
Metal - This is kinda like Steel, but it can be different metals. Basically very strong and sharp.
Toxic - Like Poison type in pokemon but a lot better.
Dark - Like Dark in Pokemon but this is the type you would see ghost show up in.
Light - This type is something completely new. It's the counterpart of Dark. You would see more magical creatures like psychic show up with this type.
Mythical - This is the type for legendary creatures. The plan we have for it is that it is very defensive against all types except for Neutral, Light and Dark. It also has no offensive advantages.

So these are out types! Something old, something new, something combined. It's got a little bit of everything. The only types advantage we have figured out are Mythical and Neutral since those are really different from the rest. We are still working on specific type charts for the rest so stay tuned for that later on. Or what kind of type charts can you guys come up with? I would love to see them with explanations as to why you did what you did.

Also creatures will have almost like secondary "types" we are calling it species. For example your creature can be a type Fire but it can also be a bug species. Being a bug will carry certain advantages or disadvantages. Other species might be like "reptile", "mammal". We are still working on this part but I just wanted to mention it so you guys knew about it.

Well that was a lot of info! I hope you guys have a good week this week and as always, let me know what you think!

Welcome back guys and gals! Another week to see the evolution of Sam and Dan games has arrived. Sorry about wait for the blog but better late than never. This week I'm pretty excited about what is coming. We will have a new mystery gift, new story level that will actually have a story to it! (Finally! I know right!) I will finish up the 1v1 changes and a few more things. This week I have to meet with the photographer for my wedding and I have class on Wednesday so instead of packing up the week and then not being able to deliver I'm keeping it short but with meaningful content. So let's get into more detail about this update and then talk a little bit about Creature Universe.

                New Mystery Gift
For the first Mystery Gift we made a poll to figure out which Pokemon you guys wanted to have and as we all know Zorua won. This week we will have a new poll! The choices will be: Riolu, Axew, Sandile, or Klink. You will have a couple of days to vote so I have enough time to add it to the game.

                New Story Level
We will finally head to Cherrygrove City but all is not well. There is a report that the Legendary Birds have been spotted but they are causing havoc! I'm pretty excited about this level since it develops the story a little more.

Small Level Cap Increase to 12
Increasing the level cap a bit, note that the new level won't require you to be at level 12 to beat the game will be balanced properly for what level you should be at that point. The level will make use of the effective level mechanic that will temporarily delevel your pokemon on that level but they can still earn experience for their actual level and keep their moves and evolutions.

Saving your pokemon's position in storage and party
Right now when you move people around in your party or storage that information is not saved when you log back in. This update will now save that position information and hopefully fix the bug that will give your pokemon the wrong moves.

                Better Map UI
Making the Map UI look more like the Battle UI and having information like the current time of the game.

                Weekly Progress:
Okay so lets look at the list that I have for this week! Keep checking back as I work on these to see my progress and cheer me on.

Creature Universe: Pick your side! Light vs Dark!
A couple of weeks ago in our development team meeting we talked about how your character can make choices. These choices would have a big impact on the world around you. Would you keep thing in order or would you bring things into chaos? We talked about it a lot and many ideas came out of it. So I want to talk a bit about it. In previous blogs we talked about the Neutral, Light and Dark types. These are creature types but they also represent three sides that you can take in the game. There will be two organizations in the game that are after something and they both go about it in two separate ways. If you mostly only help one of them you will join their side. If you help both out pretty equally you will stay Neutral. Which side you join will also determine a few other things. Some creatures when they reach an evolution might evolve in 3 different directions either neutral, light or dark. It totally depends on how your character is aligned. Also some evolution will only happen if you are really deep into Dark or Light. So some creatures will be out of reach if you don't go fully into one alignment. Keep in mind that if you are Light aligned you can still have Dark creatures. There are only a few exceptions.

Another thing that I wanted to mention is that Light or Dark neither of them are evil. They are both after something and they both have evil people inside of their organizations that you will have to stop. So don't think okay Light = good and Dark = evil.

As you progress with that organization you might even make it to the top and become its leader!

So that is all we have for this week. Keep checking back, subscribe to our twitter, leave us a comment. Let me know what you think!

Happy Thanksgiving week everyone! Last week we successfully got some work done that had been backed up for a bit. Got the Daily Activity out, Researcher, Pokedex, Saving your storage's position. There are still some left to add but I can safely say that we can move forward with the next story level.

                Mystery Gift
Last week we all decided we wanted Electric type as the Mystery Gift, but this week in honor of the flightless Turkey we will have a flying bird Mystery Gift. I picked some from different generations, vote on the one you want! Like Shinx, this one will be shiny and restricted to one use.

                PTD Fan Film 4!
Joel posted the 4th video in the ptd fan film, check it out here. This episode is about a Joey encountering Team Rocket for the first time before you meet him. If you like PTD 1 then I recommend you check it out!

                Funding Postponed + Details
We were planning to start our funding this week but Dan and I haven't been able to figure out all the prizes yet. Dan has been super busy doing a lot of business work for SnD Games so I can focus on game development. While he is not doing that he is answering order emails for Snd Coins and making 3d models for the creatures in CUTD. Thanks Dan! Anyways, the funding will be to help us keep developing PTD2 and CUTD. Coin sales and Advertisement help immensely but the future is a little shaky. We want to raise $50k and that will cover about half a year of expenses for artist, programming, design, any server cost. The cool thing is that if you help to fund you will get really cool and exclusive prizes! We will even have cool goals for reaching a certain amount and if we make it to the goal of 50k we will also have what are called stretch goals. Extra prizes that you guys can win if we reach even higher amounts for things like being able to hire an artist to be full time, being able to bring Dan in full time, increasing the amount of levels in CUTD and bringing things like multiplayer to those games. The funding will be very much like a Kickstarter but the reason we aren't doing a kickstarter is because we aren't trying to fund a particular project we are trying to fund the company itself. Right now I'm full time but it might be that if we can't complete this funding I might have to get a job programming for a different company and that will cut my game development time drastically. So we really appreciate you guys helping us out and in turn getting rewarded for it! Note: The funding has not started yet so there is currently no way to help us yet.

                First Gym Level!
This next update will feature the first gym on PTD2. I really want to make these encounters stand out and for the enemy to have fun and new mechanics. So I hope you guys can look forward to that!

                Creature Universe TD
Not going to talk a lot about CUTD this week. Just know that progress is being made and that I will talk more about it next week!

                Latest PTD2 Update
The last PTD2 update v1.36 and 1.36.1 brought a whole lot of new things. I want to quickly go over them. Last week we added 4 new families to transfer from PTD1 over to PTD2. The Pikachu, Sandshrew, Nidoran Female, and Nidoran Male families. A really great side effect of bringing over the Pikachu Family is that you can now breed Pikachus to get your very own Pichu! If you don't know how to transfer from PTD1 to PTD2 visit our FAQ page for more information. We also added 2 new evolution items. The Dusk Stone and the Reaper Cloth. These items will evolve the Ghost Pokemon we recently had for the mystery gift. Speaking of Mystery Gift we added the Steel pokemon week Shiny Aron as the Mystery Gift for this week. A new tradition I started is to give away the runner up from the Mystery Gift pool in a series of giveaways during the week. This week we gave out shiny Beldum. Today I will do another giveaway after 10PM Eastern Time for more Shiny Beldum so stay tuned on my twitter to find out when. Last but not least we increased the Soft Level Cap to 25! This added 37 new moves to the game that your pokemon can now relearn!

The Amazing Breeder, Rock Solid and Slice and Dice!
So the next update v1.37 will bring in more PTD1 to PTD2 transfers this time one of the most requested pokemon will show up. That pokemon is Ditto! The reason people want Ditto is that Ditto is able to breed with most pokemon especially those that don't have gender like Beldum and Golett. The other pokemon that I'm bringing over is the rock solid Onix and the slice and dicer Scyther! Why those two? Well I think you can figure that out. They both evolve by trading them with the item Metal Coat. Which means the Metal Coat will be available in the game. This time it will be different, instead of it just showing up in the item store you will have to find them hidden in the game then once you find the item, they will be unlocked to buy in the item store.

                Story Level
I have been recently been focusing on  adding new pokemon to the game and adding new attacks. That is still my focus but I have to agree that it has been a while since we had some story action. This level will have the gang finally head over to the Ruins of Alph after your encounter with the Unown. What secrets will you discover and why where the Unown grabbing the stones away? Maybe we will find out!

                Mystery Gift
Like every week we will have a Mystery Gift. So far it looks like Ice type is winning but let's see if somehow things change. Like last week we will also have the runner up pokemon giveaways. I'm aware that people that created multiple accounts can receive a giveaway pokemon for each account. I'm going to look into ways where I can limit that. Also I'll try to do the giveaways at different times so that people in different time zones can have a chance at getting them. Some have mentioned to have the giveaway available for a whole day but I think that will greatly reduce the value of the giveaway. Lastly some of you have mentioned adding the giveaways in the adoption center and I believe I will slowly add them starting this week with Luvdisc.

                Cosmoids UI and Move Types
Didn't get a whole lot of work done on Cosmoids. The soft level cap increase took a lot longer than I expected so I didn't get that much time. This week I'm going to focus on smaller more specific goals so that I can tackle them much easier. A big thing about Cosmoids that we are planning to do is to only allow you to have one creature out at a time. Meaning you will always have your characters tower plus one creature. You can swap at any time to a different creature. So this week I will be setting up that functionality in the early alpha and seeing how it plays out. Sometimes when you are making games you really have to build your idea out before you can say for sure if it is good or not and I think this is one of those cases. The other thing I want to work on for Cosmoids this week is a new type of move type. This move type will have you dragging the attack to the spot you want the attack to happen. Your character will have an attack like this with a long cooldown.

                Weekly Progress
Now that we have looked at what we will be working on this week, let's take a look at the specifics. I will be updating this during the week as I work on it all week.

                Status: Not Working.

                  Our Goal: $50,000

                  Last Week's Update
For the last update I focused on adding new transfers from PTD1 that could be breed to obtain new baby pokemon. We added Magmar, Electabuzz and Jynx to the PTD1 to PTD2 transfers. We also added the dawn stone to let female snorunt evolve to Froslass. Besides that we increased the level cap to 30 adding a bunch of new moves. Not only that I changed the way the learning moves system works too. If a move is in the game and ready to go and your pokemon can learn it or relearn it then it will be able to do so. It is no longer limited by the soft cap. The soft cap still remains in place to dictate which moves need to be added next. The last thing we added for PTD was the new Mystery Gift Shiny Absol and Giveaway Shiny Scraggy.

For Cosmoids, last week I added the swapping mechanic for your creatures and the new targetting move type. If you haven't played it yet, check out the Funding Rewards page on PTD2's Pokemon Center to find out how to try it out.

                  Wild Eevee appears!
The much requested PTD1 to PTD2 transfer will finally show up in this week's update! Along with Eevee you will know be able to transfer over all his evolutions from PTD1 (Jolteon, Flareon, and Vaporeon), plus using the Friendship Doll you will be able to get Espeon and Umbreon depending on the time of day that you use the doll in! All rejoice!

                  Soft Level Cap to 35!
I really want to reach the glorious level 100 soft cap. Having all the moves there really helps with figuring out more exciting levels to challenge you guys. It also helps with giving me extra time to work on Cosmoids. Story Levels really take up a lot of more time. Building the maps as you will eventually see in one of my streams takes up a good chunk of time. Reaching 35 will require 25 new moves!

                  Mystery Gifts
Like every week we have our Mystery Gift giveaway, it is my way of saying thanks for sticking with us week after week. We will also have the Giveaway which is our new tradition for this year. Right now it looks like Fire is dominating and there are quire a few good fire pokemon that will make it into the poll.

Cosmoids First Level making it exciting!
This week I will be focusing on making the first level of Cosmoids. Unlike what you might have seen so far in the first level you won't have a creature to help you. It will just be you and your bug bombs against those pesky bugs. First levels are tricky because it is the first time a player starts playing your game, you have to start teaching them things slowly so that they don't get overwhelmed by everything that is happening in the game, but you also have to make it exciting so that they want to keep playing. My goal for this level is to make it easy to understand but exciting to play. Hopefully by the end of this week you will be able to see the results of my effort.

                  Weekly Progress

                      Last Week's Update/Server Issues
We had a crazy week last week, both in a good and bad way. Let's start with the bad. So instead of telling you the story how it unfolded I will just tell you what the problem was and how it caused all the issues that we had. Okay. So Databases need indexes. Imagine you have a giant book and it has no index. How would you find that page you are looking for without having to go through the whole book? You can't! So I had a tiny database (the one that keeps track of what events you had done in the story) that was missing an index. Initially the database was so small that it didn't matter. But as the game grew in size and in users this database grew. It has over 2 million entries and so every day as the database grew so did the slowdown. It got so slow that our host suspended our account. I told them to put it back up so I could disable all logins while I fixed the problem. I was really conflicted about all this. I'm no expert on databases or server administration so I had very little idea on where to start. Luckily I had bought this book called High Performance MySQL: Optimization, Backups, and Replication. While I didn't have the time to read the whole book or follow everything it had to say, it did give me some ideas on trying to find the problem and how to fix it. After doing some test to see how long each thing took to load I found that loading events was taking way too long even when I was the only user playing the game, which brought the discovery of the missing index on that database. Other than that I made some upgrades to the database engines (I changed from mysam to innodb, for those with database knowledge) that should let more people in at a time. There might be some side effects to these changes that I will have to fix but I'm pretty happy that we are somewhat back to working order.

The good stuff is the new content that I was able to bring to the game. I finally put in running shoes into the game which let you move at twice the speed. (Your pokemon will also move fast, I did have a version where your pokemon wasn't as fast and he would be left behind) You can get the shoes by talking to an old man in Cherrygrove City after you defeat Zapdos there. Another big and daunting task that I had was to add fishing. I actually go the chance to stream while I was making the fishing part and frankly I had no idea how I was going to add fishing. Luckily I'm pretty quick at thinking about how to solve problems and so I thought of a way to add it in and it worked out pretty well. You can now get an old rod or good rod by defeating the fisher man on the second part of Route 32 (Read the FAQ page for more detailed info). Once you have a rod you can go to any water source available in the game and fish on it (press spacebar or z) this will trigger a battle. Things like which rod you are using, which location you are in, time of day will affect who you get to battle with. I basically set it up to mimic the actual game. I'm really happy with how it turned out so I hope you guys can enjoy it.

On top of all of this I added all the generation 1 pokemon that you can capture in PTD2 to the PTD1 to PTD2 transfers. This includes: Jigglypuff, Wigglypuff, Zubat, Golbat, Bellsprout, Weepinbell, Victreebell, Geodude, Graveler, Golem, Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, Poliwag, Poliwrath, Krabby, Kingler, Staryu and Starmie. As I do every week there was also a Mystery Gift and a Giveaway pokemon. The Mystery Gift was electric ghost type Rotom and the giveaway was Plusle and Minun. If you got the code in time you would get 2 of each Plusle and Minun. One male and one female.

Last but not least Cosmoids had a nice update. I added more losing conditions, if you let enough bug creatures pass you will lose the level. You can tell how many lives you have left by the heart graphic on the top left. Evan, one of our freelance artist, also did a revision on the grass graphic for the first level. While I thought the original ones looked fine, Dan thought they needed more work. And so Evan did the job and they look great! The other thing I added was a fainting animation to the units. Instead of disappearing you will now see them flip on their backs and then flash before they disappear. These types of details go a long way in making a game. Each of them bringing us closer to a full game.

                      What's happening this week:

                      Pokemon Center Bugs
I need detailed information about the Pokemon Center Bugs with Breeding, Trading and Picking up pokemon. The more step by step information you can give me the better.

                      Mystery Gift
Like every week we will have a mystery gift and a giveaway for the runner up of the poll. You have one day to vote for which of the remaining types should be the new mystery gift. Then I will post specific pokemon that can be the mystery gift and giveaway.

                      PTD1 to PTD2 Transfers
My goal this week is to add a lot of Generation 1 Pokemon into PTD2. So this week I plan to add: Vulpix, Ninetails, Oddish, Gloom, Vileplume, Paras, Parasect, Venonat, Venomoth, Diglett, Dugtrio, Meowth, Persian, Psyduck, Golduck, Mankey, Primeape, Growlithe, Arcanine, Abra, Kadabra, Alakazam, Machop, Machoke, and Machamp. Adding these will make it so that you can get more than half of the Generation 1 Pokemon into PTD2!

                      Sun Stone
Since we are adding the Oddish family and Bellossom is part of Generation 2 then I'm also adding the Sun Stone so that Gloom can evolve into Bellossom!

Cosmoids Level Select Screen and Level 2
For Cosmoids this week I want to start work on Level 2. I really want each level to feel different than the others so each level will take some time to create. On level 2 is when you finally get your first creature, but please note that you won't be able to save just yet. Since we will have multiple levels we also need a level select screen. Very similar to PTD1 there will be different chapters. I'm looking forward to making this!
