Thanks to everybody who participated!

You guys voted and now you can change the nickname of a pokemon regardless if you got it from a trade.

Okay so let's talk about the update for this weekend.

We have another story mode level coming. This time we are heading to the Rock Tunnel and all it's darkness, Flash will finally have an "out of battle" use. This also means 2 new pokemon will be added along with their evolutions. Plus regular onix will also show up to be captured.

A new feature that many of you have requested for a long time is finally coming. I will be adding a tower targeting system to the game. You will be able to set your individual towers to specific targeting instructions such as attack first, attack last, attack with candy, etc.. please post your suggestions for good targeting commands on the comments below.

Finally, many of you have talked about alternative ways to get shiny pokemon that don't require extreme luck. So for one of the new pokemon that is coming in the update I will be adding a special quest inside the game that once you finish the quest you will be awarded the shiny version of that pokemon. The quest will be a combination of things that you will have to accomplish, the game will give you clues as to how to do the quest. I hope you guys will enjoy it. Eventually every pokemon will have it's own quest so that you can find it's shiny version. On top of that you can still find shiny pokemon randomly in the while just like you can now.

That's all I have for the update below you will see my progress in completing it, keep checking back during the week to see how I'm doing :)

New Story Level  (100%)- Rock Tunnel - Make your way across the maze-like tunnel and find the exit. Battle against multiple trainers, wild pokemon and a giant onix! Can you save the old man and finish his quest for a shiny voltorb? Or will your spend your days on the cave training your pokemon?

Increased Shiny Rate (100%) - Increased it from 1/10,000 to 1/8000 to better match the real games. I won't be increasing it anymore than this.

Trade Center - Non Shiny Pokemon will now say "Regular" after their level and "Shiny" is now bolded (100%) - This is to prevent scamming.

Attacking pokemon can only be made to turn around once (100%)

Title Screen skip function (Postponed) The Winner has not sent me the fla files yet.

Certain pokemon's tower health is too big when caught (100%)

    Targeting Menu
Targeting System (100%) - Choose from a variety of commands to your pokemon so that he will attack specific targets. The commands are: Regular, Fastest, Slowest, Least Health, Most Health, Super Effective (Super Effective will prioritize target's that your pokemon would be more effective against. For Example Pikachu will now hit Zubats first before he tries to hit geodude if they are all together.), Ignore Red (Ignore pokemon when they have a red bar), Focus Candy (Prioritize pokemon with candy), Ignore Candy (Prioritize pokemon without candy).

Pokemon used or captured on the hacked version of the game will now be tagged with (Hacked Version) on the trading center and will not be eligible as pokemon for any shiny quest requirement. (100%) - This will only affect pokemon that are placed in a spot or captured from v3.5 of the hacked game. All your previous pokemon that leveled up with the hacked version will not be retroactively tagged. (Note: You can still use these pokemon in your game like any other pokemon.)

New pokemon shiny quest (100%) - Get clues in the game to finish this quest and get the shiny version of this pokemon.

Increased Duration of all Buff (100%)

Fix Diglett's Cave Level (100%) - Pokemon hit with moves that make them turn around will make the candy dissapear before reaching the end.

Fix Diglett's Cave Intro Typos (100%)

    Lower Diglett's Cave's pokemon's health (100%)

Security Update (100%) - Preventing the use of programs like Cheat Engine to change a pokemon's number or level. Doing this will result in not being able to save your game and having to log in again.

Adding New Mystery Gift Avatar (100%)

    Bug Fixes (100%)
    • Enemy pokemon can no longer grab candy from far away (100%)
    • Doing two achievements at the same time will now save both achievements (100%)
    Distribution (0%)

So that's what I have so far for the update, like I said before let me know which commands you would like the best in the comments below.

More on Shiny Quest - For people who are worried about all their time searching for shinies being wasted. This shiny quest won't be for a pokemon that was previously in the game. Also the shiny quest isn't going to be easy and will require a lot of effort for example you might need to catch a rare pokemon 10 times in one sitting, or might have to present a pokemon with a certain move. Even beat a level a certain way.to finish the quest. The quest won't be quick and easy I'll make sure of that, the good thing about the quest is that there is a guaranteed prize at the end. You aren't just looking and looking not knowing if it will show up.

      Ideas for the Future
I've come up with an idea that will make it possible to keep all the attack's cooldown at 18 and give them their proper attack power from the handheld games.

The idea is to implement PP.

After a lot of great feedback I've decided to scrap the PP idea, and find a better solution to make it work. Scrapping the PP idea is actually better for me since I don't have to deal with coding that system. If you don't know about the PP idea don't worry about it, chances are you wouldn't like it.

Instead I'm going to do something with pokemon abilities. Basically the more your pokemon attacks or gets attacked (think street fighter 4 meters) the more rage it will build. Once you have a full rage bar you can use that pokemon's ability! I'll be looking at what abilities the games use for each pokemon but I will tweak them or completely change them into something that will be extremely useful in the game. For example when using Bulbasaur to defend you might want to use his Overgrow ability which would remain similar to the game. Once you fill up your meter and use the ability his damage will gain a great boost for a limited time. But if you are attacking then you might use Chlorophyll which I would change into not only giving you a speed boost but also heals you as well. These abilities will also have a passive component to them. So for overgrow if your pokemon gets damaged and only has very little life left then the ability will trigger for a short amount of time (abilities will have cooldown). So they will be passive yet if you build up your rage meter you can unleash a stronger version of the ability whenever you feel like.

For the moves to keep their original values and have relatively close cooldowns (some will be slightly lower or slightly higher) I will have to implement: being able to miss, being able to take recoil damage, being able to heal yourself (moves like absorb), towers being able to get status effects like paralysed and confused.

So what do you think? As always leave me comments below about what you think.

Hey everybody! Sam here bringing you the goods for this week. Last week I started the update half way during the week so I didn't get to complete the level 50 cap. That will be a priority this week.
Also this week something that is not going to happen that often will happen. The return of a pokemon for the Weekly code. There won't be a new code this week but for v4.2 there will be one. Like I mentioned before I'm bringing the Challenge Mode Celadon Gym level and the prize will be a shiny pokemon. So you get the regular version from the Weekly Code and you get the Shiny from the Challenge Mode. I will leave the pokemon to be a shocking surprise.

Other than that there will be some changes with the casino, I will be reducing the amount of tries per day, increasing how much each play cost but also increasing how you get per day. This will help reduce the server load that many of us have been experiencing.

Another thing is many of you have requested that the potion behave like the pokeball in that it scrolls the screen when you are close to the borders, so I will be adding that on this update also.

      Progress List for v4.2:
Level cap increased to 48 (100%)

      Distribution (100%)

The community is a big part of what gives games the extra spark needed to keep them alive even after they have been around for a while. It's been 5 months since Pokemon Tower Defense was released and our community is as big as ever. But a divided community does more harm than good. Having two different forums, adding more chats, all it does is thin out the community. Thankfully the two most popular PTD Forums are going to combine and create one central Sam & Dan Games Forum. The merger is still in progress, once everything is ready to go I will post the link.

My passion is to create games but a huge amount of my time goes into the community. Listening to suggestions, answering emails, taking care of account issues. Dan answers any orders that come in for SnD coins. He answers comments for Hero Tower Defense. We are as open as we possibly can be and the merger of the forum will open new ways for us to connect with you guys. We will have a weekly questions section. You submit your questions on the forums and every week Dan or I will answer the questions and post them on the blog. Another feature that will come to the forums will be that you will be able to suggestions a new feature for the game and every other week the best one will be chosen and I will implement it for the update. Unless it's something that will make the game worse. I can't wait to see this feature play out.

I enjoy working on PTD and HTD, I like the fast schedules, the instant feedback. With every update the game get's closer and closer to completion, the more moves are created the easier it is to increase the level cap and the easier it is to add new pokemon. I always like to think of the next step.

Multiplayer is always a topic that gets brought up every single day. I don't have a lot of experience making a fully working multiplayer system. So in the near future I will be taking the first steps toward the multiplayer with an Avatar Chat. You will be able to use your avatar and move him around while chatting with other players. This will help to get my feet wet and start working ironing out any bugs that might come up.

I constantly ask myself, what will I work on next? Will I make a PTD sequel? If I make a poll the answer will be YES! MAKE A SEQUEL! I don't even doubt that result. I know the demand is there. I haven't fully decided if I will make it or not. After PTD, Hero Tower Defense will be getting the most attention like PTD gets now. But I like working on multiple project so when HTD goes into high gear I will be working behind the scenes on the next big game.

I do however spend some time here and there thinking about what a sequel to PTD would be like. While making a Johto Sequel to PTD is a no brainer, I always like to push myself so what if the sequel wasn't a tower defense game?

I leave you with that, as always let me know what you think, try to keep any account issues away from the blog comments just email me directly. Thanks for the great support that all of you continue to give us to this day.

Pokemon Tower Defense's Final Release! A postmortem, and looking forward to the future!

Want to get the Shiny legendary dogs? Shiny Mew? or any other shiny pokemon in the game? Adopt them today using SnD coins! Click here for more info.

Visit the PTD: Pokemon Center - a place to trade pokemon, get your Daily Code, adopt Pokemon, view your items and change your avatar!

It has been a long time coming but the end of Pokemon Tower Defense is here! From start to finish it has been a year and a half. Blood, sweat and tears! But the outcome has been more than worth it. We have leveled up, and evolved so much from the beginning. We went from hobbyist to full time game developers. From no fans to thousands of fans. This is only the beginning of our long journey and we want you to come with us!

As you move forward in any stage of your life it's important to look at your successes and your mistakes. There is a lot of valuable information in these things, especially your mistakes. In our case we will examine what I think went right in PTD and what went wrong. These things will help me with the development of PTD 2.

      What Went Right

      1. Crossing Pokemon with Tower Defense - This was the most critical element to the success of the whole game. Fortunately we got it right. I knew just the name Pokemon Tower Defense would catch many people's attention but the combination of elements will make them stay. From catching pokemon and using them as your towers, to having your towers stay leveled up and evolved between levels. This is something that I plan to continue and expand for the sequel. Adding breeding and pokemon holding items among other things will help the game move to the next level.

      2. Community Involvement - Adding the feedback button and asking for help to improve the game, especially in the early stages of the game really helped to build the community. This is something that we will continue to do with all our games. Your feedback from comments, emails, votes on polls heavily influences the direction that our games take. Votes usually affect the games directly.

      3. Weekly Updates - Waiting for the game to be completed was something that I couldn't afford to do. Releasing a game is similar to rolling a dice. The odds are mostly against you. The longer you take to roll the dice (release a game) the more risk you take on. Working on a game for some months and releasing it as an Alpha helps me to see if people are into a game and see if its worth spending more time on. Once the game was a success people just wanted more and more. I thought it would be great to have a new release each week almost like a TV series. Fans would be looking forward to the release each week, keeping the interest in the game going while being able to expose the fans to new ideas that I have for future games.

      4. Pokemon Center - The Pokemon Center, most specifically the Trading Center was a great success even though it is very basic right now. It gave a chance for you fans to trade each other. I was also be able to add other options like the game corner to add other things to do in the game. The Pokemon Center will get improvements for the sequel that will make transferring and trading a whole lot easier. The ads on the Pokemon Center also help to fund the development of the game.

      5. SnD Coins and Adoption - Snd Coins and Adoption really help fund our future games and also gave you the fans a chance to support us more directly while getting something in return. This system will be used for all our future games including PTD 2. In the near future we will add more ways to get the coins.

      6. Game Story - Adding the story to the game (most Tower Defense don't have a story) really helped to make the game more compelling and gave a lot of chances to add cameos for characters from the anime and game. Also it added the opportunity to add references to other media that I enjoy. PTD 2 will have a new story that is loosely related to the first game.

      What Went Wrong

      1. Weekly Updates - Yes, I know I put this on the what went right section but it also went wrong in a lot of ways. I really think the quality of the game suffered due to the quick update schedule. While I'm proud of how the game turned out as a whole I know that if I had more time the quality would have risen drastically. Many times I found myself with a lot of interesting ideas but not having the time to implement them in time. The story suffered a lot also do to quick updates. Epic fight scenes were turned into just something mentioned in the dialog instead of me being able to show it. For PTD 2 we plan to take more time to make sure everything is like we want it while still trying to maintain a good schedule. More on that later.

      2. The Grind - I felt that while some grinding was acceptable it was impossible to continue playing without having high level pokemon. This resulted in many people using the hacked version or having to grind out their characters while doing something else. I don't think this is fun and I want to reduce the need to grind in the sequel as I don't think it adds anything to the game. Shiny hunting will remain relatively the same but that is something that is optional.

      3. Multiplayer - I had many grand ideas for multiplayer but I never got the time to fully realize those ideas. Also the way I set up the attacks in the game didn't lend themselves for multiplayer which affected how synched the levels are (not very). For the sequel I want to rebuild the attacks to work for a multiplayer setup. Also focus more on the multiplayer as it adds re-playability to the game.

      4. Updating the game - Another big part that went wrong getting the update to the players. A lot of sites probably have older versions of the game that don't even work. For the sequel I want the game to check for the latest version and update itself so that everybody can get updates instantly as I put them up and I also won't have to be sending out updates to 5 different sites.

What else do you think went right and what else do you think went wrong? Let me know.

      Now for the future!

My main focus now will be working on Hero Tower Defense, but that game will not be moving at the same fast pace as PTD so that will allow me some time to work on PTD 2 and our Creature Universe game (Project ANPO). I know some of you just want me to work on PTD 2 but the reality is that I also need to focus on original games that can take Sam and Dan games farther than a pokemon game can. Since we don't own the rights to pokemon I can't put the game on the different app stores and sites like Kongregate. Also PTD can get shut down at any point and I wouldn't be able to do anything about it so putting all my eggs in that basket is not a good idea.

I'm sure Dan will mention on this week's Hero Tower Defense blog but HTD is going to be getting some significant changes in the graphic department that will help speed up the development.

For Project ANPO Dan and I got to talk a lot about how the game will work and we made good progress on that. What I hope to do this month is work on a prototype so that I can start testing out the different mechanics that we have in mind and so that you guys can check it out and give us your feedback.

For PTD 2 the question I get asked the most is "When is it coming out!?" Well to be honest I don't even know when it's coming out. I will keep you guys posted. I did have an idea which is to make a special mode that has a lot of re-playability that will use the generation 1 pokemon (since I have all their stats and graphics already created) and release that first which will give you guys something to do while the game is in development. But even this mode will take a while to build so I don't have any specific dates to give out. Just follow me on Twitter and follow the blog for weekly updates to the game.

Alright guys, I really appreciate all the support for this past year and a half. I hope you enjoyed the game and if you want some more then I will be working hard to keep it coming. Thanks for everything you do!

As always let me know what you think!
